Postmodern theory, in contrast to theories of “modernism”, does not mourn the ideas of fragmentation,

disassociation, and incoherence. Rather, it celebrates them attributing little validity to universality, truth, reason,

and stability. By destroying my Rubber Band Simulacra I intended to symbolize a rejection of any and all

“grand narratives” as such narratives exist under the universal and inescapable linguistic creation of reality.

My weapon of choice was an electric kitchen knife. I hoped that, by violently sawing my ball in half,

I would provide a “gothic” representation of its release from the realm of the signifiers to the domain of
