This project was an attempt to get back to focus of what I think is most important step in the process of studying and discussing gender: personal reflection. To generate discussion on this topic, I decided to create a tent out of muslin, safety pins, paint, and PVC pipe to create an enclosed environment. There was a mirror placed inside the tent on the floor in order to inspire literal "personal reflection". The art on the outside was painted with acrylic paint, spraypaint, and oil pastels by myself, partially outside in the rain. The art attempts to convey the chaos and noise affecting our perceptions of our own gender and identity. Panel one shows the dismemberment of the body. Panel two illustrates the feeling of flight or escape. Panel three conveys static noise.
