Affirmative Action: Re-visite- Introduction

The deterioration of affirmative action policies should be seen as flashing warning signs. The society we are headed toward must be conscious of the demise of affirmative action or else we may be creating a framework for future injustices.   Affirmative action policies need to be at the forefront of policy initiatives for the sake of future generations because communications technology has the potential to create opportunity, while simultaneously creating new challenges to the status quo.

Affirmative action is described by Britannica.com as, an active effort to improve employment or educational opportunities for members of minority groups and women.  As the Britannica online definition suggests, affirmative action is possible if it is actively sought.  It is clear that the future of affirmative action policies will be defined by the information age we live in; therefore, a re-orientation of ideals is necessary to carve out the new facets of our highly technological landscape.  These include monitoring discrimination practices in the making of new technologies, the integration of technology through education, the ways technologies are adapted, and the importance of fair business practices among high tech companies.
