"Bendaroo Friends"

Make-a-thon Project

Have you ever come across those infomercials during kids' shows about Bendaroos™ Magic Wax Super String?

As a fan of Nickelodeon, I’ve been tempted several times to pick up my phone and order these sculpting toys.

In an attempt to allow delirium to lead my thoughts for my Make-A-Thon project, I knew the second I saw the Bendaroo stand at HEB that this was the perfect medium to start off with.
The long overnight session of making... something... began!

I spent some time playing with the string
It was easiest to sculpt the string on windows, so my animation stage was set. With my camera facing out a window to a backyard with a motion-sensor light, I sat animating these creatures while waving a hanger out the window to keep the set lights on. I set up a chair in the backyard thinking it would be cute for the creature on the window to look like he’s sitting on it, then set up an indoor light to match that of the outdoor.

Later, a friend of mine, Philip Bailey, sat beside the chair to interact with the creature in the foreground. Originally, I had asked if he would like to take part in my project and fight with the creature. Since this took place around 2 a.m., he preferred to just chill with him.

Eventually, after enduring the long time it took for me to animate the creatures interacting with him, Phil felt like having a cookie - so the creature gave him one. :o)
