ACTLab: Ashley Arechiga's Index: the Uncanny: Project 3 Aura: About Aura
Aura is a short film created around a doll I created out of China clay and wires.
The original video (the first half) was inspired from Zane Ruttenberg's song "Baby Possum", and it was filmed on a large whiteboard. The second half was created to contrast the two original smells I had in mind for the video.
The film was meant to resemble a dream and involve smell; because smell is barely recognized in dreams, I wanted to engulf the audience in an unrecognizable dream and incorporate the smell.
However, while filming Aura, I became more involved with the various textures and was unable to experiment with the smells.
It was then that I realized my visual attention dominance over the smell aspect, and I became just concerned in making the video visually curious before the presentation.
The idea of incorporating the doll and whiteboard together is in itself a breakthrough for me. With the addition of the green screen during the melting scene, I believe I'm moving in a possitive direction towards experimental animated films.
I'm looking forward to exploring those aspects more in the Spring '09 Dream and Delerium Act Lab class ;o)
