Adam's Sound Page
Random Sounds:
The noise my CD-ROM drive makes when I try to play Baldur's Gate. Very annoying.
The sound that wakes me up every day. The glass shower door slamming does the job most of the time.
In class activity. An imitation of the Williams Project.
Project Related Sounds:
I found this on the internet. I thought it sounded like a group of Zombies and I needed that sound. I am told it is from the Exorcist.
Alternate version with rifle shots.
Board game pieces being set up. I doubled the speed to make it sound better.
A giant fire ball flies through the air and then blows up. I needed this for a trap's sound.
The clashing of swords. I had a hard time finding a resonably long file of swords hitting each other but I finally found this one.
Rastaurant sounds I needed for my project.
Sound of people playing pool.
A good long file of ambiant morning sounds. Lots of birds chirping and some cars in the background. I intended to use this for my project but I ended up using something else.
Loud snapping noise. It is of me breaking pasta. I needed this sound for my project. I wanted it to sound like bone snapping and it is pretty close I think.
Sounds of thunder. I used this for my 2nd project and I really like the sound.
Loud screaming sound I like and used on my 2nd project.
A bear growling. I am going to use this in my next sound project most likely.
More bear noises. I want to get Bart The Bear sounds but I can't seem to find them. This will do though.
A short banjo rif that I will need for my project.
A longer sound of a banjo being played. I am not sure if I will use this or not. I will use something like this if nothing else.
Sound of a tree falling for when the bear chases people in my project.
Sound of falling into water for my project.
Project 1:
There was a popular game in the 80's called Hero Quest. It was one of those games with swords and monsters and lots of dice. It was one of my favorite games as a kid, but it was always a pain to set up because it had so many pieces. I remember all the little plastic pieces clanking together. I also remember the constant arguing that went along with the game.
When I was looking through my closet I found my bag of spare game parts. Most of them were from my old Hero Quest game. I don't own the game anymore but I still have a lot of memories from it. This got me thinking about the game and the sounds it made. Below is a pictuer of the Hero Quest game and most of its pieces.
The idea I wanted to cover for my project was significant noise. Significant noise is basically a name for sound that has meaning or gives some sort of context for itself. Basically if you have an intent for a noise then it is a significant noise. For my project I wanted to use significant noise to help tell a story. My intent was to use backround noise to say things that the dialogue does not. My project has many different layers of noise all of which are important or meaningful. I used a great deal of ambiant noise to establish settings and to give a general mood for the piece. I also used sound effects so that listeners could tell where the character was and hopefully what he was doing. I wanted a little of the action to be left to the listeners imagination but it was my intent to control the general tone of the story with signifcant noise.
My project is formed from a combination of recorded and internet sounds. Almost all talking is me but I changed the pitch of the files in hopes of making it sound like several different people. I had to balance the sound carefully on this project because there are so many sounds and because I suck as a voice actor and it is hard to understand what I am saying if the file is not played loudly enough.
I like the way the file turned out for the most part. My roomate thought it was weird and laughed a few times and that is pretty much the reaction I was looking for.
Final Project: Ramses And Banjo
This entire project is based on one principle and one principle only. Bear attacks are funny. This has been proven time and time again since the dawn of man...and bears. Anyway, that aside I had an interesting time with this project. I created most of the sounds on my own unlike my last project. I also did not have nearly as big of a problem with not having enough tracks. It also helped that I finally got use to all the controls on the editing software. On one hand I feel like this project is better than the last two since I was actually able to use most of the features in my editing software. On the other hand I did not run into nearly as many problems so I feel like I did not work as hard. Still, I like the end product. I laugh when I listen to it so it must be at least kind of funny.
