An Investigation of Love:

My project is an attempt to look at Love as an intoxicator, drug, but most importantly a state of delerium. Love simply put (not to sound poetic) is a dream. Any kind of love puts one into a state of dreamery. Ask your self, how many times have your friends said he or she is hot or so and so is perfect, when in actuallity that same so and so has countless flaws that your friend just doesn't see. I will interview five of my closest friends and record their stories of being in this delerious state. If love is blind what causes this blissful dreaming that only the one in love can experience?

The Suitecase Project:

You can’t loose your dreams-forget them or live them behind.  You might be able to put them down and rest for awhile but…

Front: A man screaming-mouth wide open I glued a mirror where his mouth is. I used acrylic paint blue black and white to give it a disturbing feeling. A silent scream with the viewers image becoming apart of his nightmare-captured in the reflection in his mouth.

Panel A- A starry background and a starry eyed girl who has no eyes. Eyes can be deceiving, and so can your dreams. You should pay attention to your dreams and not be ambivalent to their meaning. I outlined her image in yellow to produce a positive contrast.

Inside II- I laid down pine needles found outside on the ground mixed together with feathers I bought at the store. I destroyed a pretty doll, gauging her eye out and spray painting her various colors- I added green and black moss. I found an old fishing net in my grandmothers garage and cut it to fit in the box to secure the doll I stapled the net to the interior of the box.

Panel B- Geisha are traditional, female Japanese entertainers, whose skills include performing various Japanese arts, such as music, singing, and dancing. They also engage their clients with light conversation. The Floating World is a term used to describe many aspects of life, including - but not limited to - the pleasure-seeking lifestyle and culture of Edo Period Japan (1600-1867). The famous Japanese woodblock prints or "pictures of the Floating World", depict scenes of the Floating World: geisha, sumo wrestlers, and samurai are some of the main themes.

Bottom- sexual desires in your dreams-human’s lust and unfulfilled desires often carry over into our dreams.

Back: Dreamy Fantasy world where fish fly in the sky and cupids reign havoc. I incorporated the well known image of Dorothy from the “Wizard of OZ”, who while falling asleep awoke in a beautiful and scary world far from here home. Beauty can surround you in a fantasy world- so I used a mountain landscape and sea shell stickers to give the idea of  competing landscapes, butterflies and angle like images placed in a sky-blue background  and the main image is a large Mermaid right center. In folk lore much like Sirens, mermaids in stories would sometimes sing to sailors and enchant them, distracting them from their work and causing them to walk off the deck or cause shipwrecks.

Inside- nightmares can stay with us as long as day-mares. Depictions of demonic like creatures- I attached them to cardboard which I glued to the inside of the case. I spray painted black around the images to create unity-I splattered painted red acrylic to give an image of blood.

Top- I left the top of the suitcase untouched so that you would be able to tell what it originally looked like.

Handle- I attached handcuffs to the suitcase to represent our attachment to our dreams-literally we are handcuffed to them.
