Project 1 - The Geekboots

For my first project, I decided to attempt to create some sort of useful tool for the persuit of Weird Science. I'm an avid boot-wearer, and have always been prone to tucking things into my boots like all the Cool People do in movies. This inspired me to create a pair of boots with the Weird Scientist in mind - with lots of useful pouches and elastic loops sewn into the interior so that the wearer could carry any number of useful tools and items around with them wherever they go. An added bonus of using the Geekboots is that all of the items inside are hidden by the wearer's pants leg, meaning that no one will know that you're a Weird Scientist - until it's too late!

Here's some pictures of me working on the boots. I had never sewn or stitched anything in my life, so as you might imagine, working with thick leather boots was something of a challenge. I used an awl to start every hole, and still managed to break two or three needles over the course of the project. When I started out, I was using metal wire to sew the pouches and loops onto the boots, but the wire turned out to be too weak and tended to break, so I switched to a heavy-guage thread.

Here's a couple close-up shots of the boots:
