One long major trail. Lots of undocumented stuff. Several shallow creek crossings (be prepared to get your feet wet, or ruin your bottom bracket.;) Maps available from local shops (REI, & bike shops), and at trailheads. My starting points: Zilker Park, Hwy. 360 trailhead. About 7miles from Zilker to 360.
One loop about 5 miles long, with a cross-cut in the middle making a loop of about 3 miles. Several undocumented offshoots. Lots of loose rocks (got my first non-road flat here) Somewhat hard to find, but if you get on the right road, you can't miss the big sign. ;-)
Great stuff! SW of 360 & 183.
near Smithville. Rocky Hills Ranch offers over 18 miles of trails ranking from beginner to extreme. There's also a restraunt/bar for refreshments. Cost is $5.50 and is well worth the price. -- nathan@io.com
There's a nice gravel (caliche) road from San Marcos to Wimberley... Go out R 12 from SM and turn at freeman ranch road. A very nice ride...and easy...nice because one is actually on ranches (hello cows, hello cow patties)...and easy because it's car navigable. Great views too. --mw17318@academia.swt.edu
