captain's music

Coming soon: Jam session listings for the "Live Music Capital of the World" (especially "Traditional" music in Austin).

Also, tune library with audio clips! :-)

Lately I've been getting back into playing music. I used to be a music major at UCSC (Santa Cruz, CA). I wrote a bunch of mediocre "new agey" stuff, played keyboards, and dropped out because they insisted that I "sing" to be a music major.
Now I've gotten over my puerile embarassment, and I'm acutally singing out loud in front of real live people! ;-)

For the past 8 years or so I've been spending most of my time with music "fiddling" with a little plastic soprano recorder. This year I started going to jam sessions. After all,Austin is the "Live Music Capital of the World" (by city council self proclamation. I personally preferred "Austin, the Friendly City". ;-).

Anyway, I've picked up playing the penny whistle, African hand drums, and fiddle, among other myriad instruments (basically anything I can get my hands on ;-).
So if you're interested, check out my music bookmarks or select one of the following lame recordings of me playing two African rhytms:
Shiko
CounCoun.
note: the above should be looped (set to auto repeat without delay) to hear the full rhythm. These are small so you don't have to wait 30 minutes downloading to hear them, so they only represent one cycle of each rythm.

And here are several whistle tunes I try to play. I am still learning, so don't expect anything wonderful. ;-)
Here are some Amiga "mod" files you can play with. Mod players are available for Amiga and Intel-based machines at least, and maybe Macs too.
The "mod" file collection.
If you have any other good ones that you'd like to add to this please drop me a note. :-)
Feel free to drop me a note to talk about music. Have fun now!
