What good is a first amendment forum, such as the actlab, public access television, or the West Mall, without the protection of the first amendment? It seems to me that if objectionable content arises in any of these contexts, the forum itself can be relied upon to draw attention to the content and raise it to the focus of an honest dispute.
Bran Muffin's nude pictures--I have been prevented from seeing them because the links no longer work--are an excellent example of disputed content in a public forum. It would be nice to make up my own mind about the suitability of these files for public access. However, I have been prevented from making a judgment about the specific content of his speech, because an anonymous party has exercised prior restraint and forced his .gifs off the 'net.
Whoever has taken up Bran Muffin's first amendment challenge should present their position to an actlab forum so that actlabbers can be reassured that an anonymous censorship/content control mechanism has not been imposed without our knowledge of it.
Yours truly
