Cosmic Feedback
For my second project I wanted to experiment with TV feedback. Eternal replications, such as the images mirrors produce when facing each other, are uncanny to me because after a certain amount of replications you begin to forget what image is the original. I also wanted to work with different images, textures and layers, so I added mesh fabric and a skeleton necklace in front of my television screen.
I recorded everything onto VHS tape and then dubbed it to my computer using a mini DV camera connected to the output of my VCR. Then I connected the camera to my computer via Firewire and captured the footage.
While I was capturing the footage, I had my iTunes on shuffle and a track from Timothy Leary's Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out sound track came on. I thought the track suited the images perfectly, so I decided to use it. I also added my own soundtrack to it using different cosmic sounds that I manipulated to make them sound more drone-ish.
