Black Box
For my third project I wanted to create a world inside a small box. I've always been interested in miniature figures and their roles in imaginary worlds. For my world, I decided to stick with the same textures and materials I have used throughout the semester. I included paper cut outs of skulls and pelvis bones and small rocking horses that I spray painted gold. I also angled the mirrors in front of the peepholes so they'd reflect your eye looking back at you.
(Looking into the box through the front peephole with the lid taken off-you can see the lens of the camera reflected in the mirror.)
(Looking through the front peephole again with the lid on the box.)
During my presentation, I did not take the lid off the box so that the contents inside remained a mystery. The box has many small holes cut out on the top and sides of the box in order to let light in. Inside, the viewer is presented with many different items, sort of like an Eye Spy game. In addition to all the reflective material, I think the box let the viewer escape into a small and uncanny world.
