When Boyle's Air Pump produced truth, it changed the world of science as we know it. The definition of truth was established as fixed, and repeatable through experimentation. In the following piece, an attempt was made to represent the duality of truths. Through defining one truth, all other alternatives are deemed false, and therefore irrelevant.
The piece consists of a baking tray, with a message written in water soluble paint. Over this tray is stretched clear cellophane film with holes punctured through. On the film, a layer of potting soil is laid, and within this soil, wheatgrass seeds are planted in the shape of another message. This creates a lose/lose scenario of revealing either message as a truth: to see the painted message, you must remove the soil, destroying the seeded message; to reveal the seeded message, you must water the soil and seeds, which will trickle through the perforated cellophane and wash away the paint.
