This project was hard for me. I have been intrigued lately by the reappropriation of words and symbols, and this project was my way of dealing with many of these issues. To many this project may seem like the exact opposite of postmodern thought, but to me it symbolizes a move towards freedom without the bounds of words such as "faggot". If words do truly mean only what is ascribed to them, then every word has a dual nature and could be both malevolent and benevolent. If nothing else, it is an example of juxtaposition of the uncanny and the sublime. On the other hand, one could see this piece as a commentary on or even a rejection of the postmodern gothic train of thought.
