-project 3-

   back

Long story short: I had (what I thought was) a great idea for a final project. It fell through less than a week before the project was due. Then, I had (what I thought was) a second great idea for a final project...I was pretty wrong. The inspiration came from a demonstration by the Young Conservatives organization on campus that was "An ACLU Nativity Scene". This scene featured Joseph and Gary (instead of Joseph and Mary), a terrorist as the shepherd, Lenin, Stalin, and Marx as the three wise men, and no baby Jesus (you can read more about the event here). My goal was to create the appropriate baby Jesus for such an event. What with the conservatives in this nation all up in arms against radical leftist thinking like dinosaurs, cyborgs, and cloning, I decided to combine the three. The result was supposed to be an animatronic cyborg dinosaur baby Jesus. It ended up being a baby Jesus with a couple dinosaur parts whose eyes glow and roars.
I didn't want to create an obviously gothic cyborg, but rather something that was implicitly gothic and carried the same motivation. Unfortunately, the motor broke at about 2am the morning of the day it was due (even though it had been working perfectly fine for days), and there was not much I could do to fix it. Even with the motor fully functioning it wouldn't have lived up to my expectations, but it was at least creepy.
