The idea for my first presentation came about from a sensation I got while shooting alone during the middle of the night during my first semester of photography. Through out the shoot I experienced brief moments of paranoia, fear, and excitement as I moved from location to location. It was almost like someone was following me, or, that I was running away from someone. So for this presentation, I tried to create an abstract and subjective narrative, with each image representing the point of view of a lost and tortured soul, running away from his quickly approaching death. The basic narrative structure begins with the image of the bridge. Moving from the bridge, the images begin to grow more abstract and black, to a feeling of melting away with the over-exposed image of the trees. The final image of the other side of the bridge, leaves the story open-ended and ambiguous. You don’t know if it is the character looking back towards the bridge, or if he met his demise there because of the abstractness of the previous image. I decided to make window mats using watercolor paper and to paint in uneven black frames in order to heighten the feeling of unevenness, and to complement the different textures in the photographs.
