For my second project i did a soundscape and took a survey. For the
survey I asked two questions. These questions have to do with sight and
sound, and what people think is more important to them.
First I asked people to decide which sense they would rather be BORN
with. Would you rather be born deaf, or blind?
Secondly I asked them, which sense they would choose for themselves
today?
I am trying to gauge what sense people feel is more important to them,
and whether or not they feel having one or the other is more important
during development as an infant.
Here are my results...
- Out of 26 people, 16 of them would rather be born deaf, while being
able to see.
- If they had to choose today, 14 of them think sight is more
important.
- 7 of them prefer being born blind with the ability to to hear.
- 9 of them choose to hear today, than to see.
It seems to me this group prefers to see than hear. Personally, I think
that your ability to hear is much more important than sight, especially
as an infant. But to each his own.
The second part of my project consisted on a 5.1 soundscape. I asked
everyone to focus on the directionality of the sounds, and ask them to
document what they heard, and where they heard it from. Also, I aksed
them to put some notes down about what they thought of the soundscape. Click on the file do download it...

If you get to listen to the soundscape, try to pin point where each
sound is coming from, and if you can both, follow the direction it is
going, and coming from.
The soundscape consists of different sounds, see which ones you can
identitfy....not everything is what it seems to be. Here is a list of
what people in the class thought they heard. (only 2 of the noises were
identified)
-piano
-birds
-static
-people
-city noises
-a motor
