My Final Project was a collaboration of sounds i downloaded from the The Free Sound Project that i put into another soundscape, and a clip from youtube.
Before I presented the soundscape, I showed a clip on youtube, WHILE MUTED. It is important the you watch the clip on mute to emulate being deaf.
After the video (on mute), we heard the soundscape. And since I do not know how to put a 5.1 audio image over the interweb, im going to tell you how to o it, so you can create your own soundscape and see what it feels like to be blind! Lets go.
First of all go to the The Free Sound Project and select clips of an environment you would like to simulate, i recommend you select at least six different track that you can loop. My project was based on war, but you can do it on whatever you want.
Next, use an editor like garage band, or pro tools, or logic. The point is to be able to designate 6 different tracks (5 speakers, and the sub) and place whichever sound you want on each track. Loop the tracks, and set the volume until you achieve the sound you want.
The next part I only know how to do on a Mac, so if you have a PC...get a Mac. The next step involved a lot of trial and error, and is not the only way to go about creating a 5.1 image. You can try to find your own way to do it, but this is my way.
For Mac users, open compressor, onthe upper right hand corner, click on add surround. Click on the file you created, and designate your tracks on each speacker. The sub is special, you have to premtivly designate the low frequencies you want, and give feed it to the sub. Then click the file and make sure you select 5.1 dolby digital surround, then direct the export to your desktop. All of thes options can be accessed, through the file you created when you clicked the add surround option.
The next step is to turn it into a dvd, once you open idvd, or dvd studio, set the soundscape which should be an Ac3 file on the menu, or set is as a track on the dvd. Then put the dvd in your home entertainment center (make sure you have surround sound), sit back, close your eyes, relax, and feel what it feels like to be blind.
