Project One
A Nightmare
For our first presentation, I began with the idea of lucid dreaming. I wanted to create the feeling of a strange place that you move through spatially. I was inspired by dreams I've had in the past and tried to recreate some of the images by using places around my house. The original plan was to give the viewer the opportunity to understand the metaphor of dreams by including the meanings certain objects have in dreams according to dream interpretation books and websites. I briefly toyed with the idea of making up the defintions, to aid in the eerie effect of the film, but in the end I decided that it was creepier to keep in the true defintions, which were cheery and inspiring. Overall, I'm pretty proud of the imagery and once borrowing a song from the Lost Highway soundtrack, the piece was nearly complete. I purposely didn't toy with the images too much, probably because my dreams are pretty vivid and not crazy outside of the content. Everything looks too real as a matter of fact, making it hard to distinguish things in waking life sometimes. Anyway, I changed the tone of the piece by adding a series of pictures relating to phobias and nightmares and then ended the piece with a classic Jessica twist.
