Jessica Deaton's ACTLab Stuff
During my 5 year educational adventure at the University of Texas at Austin, I have spent a good deal of time "making stuff" for my ACTLab classes. I don't think I've neccessarily progressed or regressed in my abilities as a filmmaker, mostly because I have used ACTLab as an opportunity to explore my creativity outside of just camera work and editing. A good deal of my "comfort projects" can be found in my archives and includes a lot of projects where I have simply editied images together.
For my Blackbox class, I completely stepped out of my comfort zone and tried everything differently than I have in previous semester, mostly recieving mixed to disapproving reviews. I think all of my ACTLab work has been a fantastic learning experience in both "making stuff" and excepting my limits as an artist (haha). I have definately learned more, had more fun, and experimented more in this class than any other I've taken at UT, and the ACTLab has defined my RTF degree. Altogether this class has been like a Rubik's Cube that I keep twisting to find new patterns but can never quite solve. Click The links below to watch my trip through the ACTLab maze.
I'm now in the beginning of my Dreams & Delirium class, and so far this class has proved to be the most talented class of the 4 I've taken. I'm especially excited to see how this semester will end. I was under the impression that last semester's Blackbox class was going to be my last ACTLab course. Thankfully, after some careful schedule juggling and a force add, here I am! I'm excited to see how this semester comes out.
