Media Representation of Female Body Image And Its Effect upon Female Visual Perception

A Project by, Daphne Browell

Mission Statement:

To construct an instrument that will re-construct the visual media imagery that is fed to females all their lives, corresponding in a warped perception of themselves and reality.

Idea:

To make a large structure, representative of the female reproductive system laden with the exploited images of women as seen in the media. When entering the womb the audience is new/fresh and then fed, visually, a discombobulating dose of what women are portrayed to be/want to be. Upon leaving the main chamber they make their way down the birthing canal, reflecting images upon them and their psyches. To be born out and in front of a mirror that distorts their image, in the same way years of propaganda has distorted female's own self-images.
