Sound
Images and Sounds: Mixing 'em up to give 'em new meaning
The Idea
While watching the movie DEAD CALM (by the way, I don't recommend it) the end offered some suspenseful music so that I would not get confused and not realize it was a suspenseful moment. As thankful as I usually am for inane soundtracks, it made me think about how the music changes the theme of an image.
Also, I read about a John Cage piece where he laid a number of records on the floor and had people walk on them and the scratched up records were the sound installation.
With all that in mind, I thought it might be interesting to have a number of different videos and a number of different CDs with different type of music on them and randomly select which soundtrack goes to which video without there being any prior connection to the two.
The End Result
I randomly selected a video of an iguana by drawing the number corresponding with it out of a paper bag and then randomly selected the fourth track on a zydeco music CD.
Another combination randomly came about by selecting a vacation home movie of San Francisco and playing an 80's pop soundtrack to it.
Other combinations can be made by clicking on the sound files below and matching them to different photos.
