Avid Xpress Release 3.5 Online Publications

Welcome to the Avid Xpress DV Release 3.5 Online Publications collection. The DOCS folder contains the online books for Avid Xpress Release 3.5. Once you have Acrobat Reader installed on your system, double-click the MainMenu.pdf file to open the online collection.

The Help folder contains the Avid Xpress DV Release 3.5 Help as well as Help for EDL Manager and FilmScribe. You can copy the Help files to your Windows or Macintosh system. See the Using This Collection document on the MainMenu.pdf for instructions.

The online books require Acrobat Reader 3.1 or later. The Acrobat folder contains free Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 with Search software for Macintosh and PC computers. The search feature allows you to search across multiple books at the same time. See the Using This Collection document for more information.

Installing Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 for Macintosh

The Acrobat folder contains an installer for Acrobat Reader 5.0.5. Follow the instructions in the README file in the FOR_MAC folder.

Installing QuickTime

The effects guide contains links to many QuickTime movies. QuickTime 4.0 or later is required to view the movies. You can download the latest QuickTime Player from the Apple Web site:

Keeping the Main Menu Open

After you install the Adobe Acrobat software, open the CD-ROM and double-click the MainMenu.pdf file. This document provides easy access to all the books in the collection.

To keep the Main Menu open while you read the online books, you need to set a Preference in the Acrobat Reader interface.

1. Choose Preferences from the Edit menu (OS 9) or the Acrobat Reader menu (OS X).
ÝÝÝÝÝ The Preferences dialog box appears.
2. Choose Options.
3. In the Miscellaneous area, deselect the "Open Cross-Document Links in Same Window" option.
4. Click OK.
ÝÝÝÝÝ You have to do this only once. Acrobat Reader uses this setting every time you open the application.
