Last Soul Descendents

(Houston)

Last Soul Descendents, of Houston, TX, was formed in 1996 and is made up of two members, Darren Roberts and Leah Moore.  LSD, for short, also collaborates with various artists and features them on different projects.  LSD came up with their name because they felt that it captured the idea of artists working together to produce music and art that is real and true to their hearts.  It seems that anymore this is a rare and valuable quality and that those that feel that way about their product are among the last souls and it is up to the artists to keep it alive.

Last Soul Descendents’ music style is classified as Electronic with the sub-genres of Down-Tempo, Trip Hop and Dub.  Some of their influences are Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Prince, George Clinton and the P Funk All-stars, Zapp, Burning Spear, Sly and Robbie, Bjork, Portishead, Lamb, Morcheeba, just to name a few.  LSD tries to encompass all the various styles into their music to give it a blend of hypnotic grooves.

Last Soul Descendents mainly is a studio duo.  They are known locally within the artists/music community as well as through the World Wide Web.  LSD is featured on the soundtrack for JEL Production’s film Exposure that was released in the summer of 2003.  They are also featured on the cable television show Rent Wars out of New York with over several million viewers.  LSD remixed a track from the artist Saru, off his CD Downtempo Dojo of Shadow Records called Suck In Love (Exhale Remix) and in return Saru remixed Something About You (Step To It Remix) off the 2004 compilation Space City Grooves.  Special events, shows and festivals have given the duo more exposure and a growing fan base.

In 2004, Last Soul Descendents' producer, Darren Roberts, was awarded The Houston Press best producer and LSD was nominated for the Houston Press best Soul/Funk/R&B group.
