Final Project
Spirit Of The Land
For the final project I was interested in mixing rock music with a somewhat weird techno drone. Therefore I took my trusty guitar out, and I got to work to make something I feel about. My facination with the future led me to work on a theme related to the future. I imagined it to be fast, dark yet peaceful, and I think with what I made, I did get those feelings across; the way I felt. I Hooked up the guitar to a POD 2.0 direct box which went into an amplifier. I also hooked up an alexis drum machine to the amplifier. I wanted to create an empty, hollow, spatial effect which would lend a hand to the futuristic theme in my view. Therefore, I decided to record in a bathroom. I set a mic on the bathroom ledge to get the reverb effect, and I set one in front of my amp, to get the sound of my music. I plugged in the mics to a Tascam 4 track recorder machine which went through into the computer, to my 6 track recording program DD Clip Pro.
Once i performed the piece, I thought it needed a bass track. With the track already playing I recorded my bass track over it. Done with that I was still missing the dark aspect of the future, so I layered a synthesizer track over my guitar and drum tracks. The synthesizer track was atonal to the structure of the guitar tracks, that put in the darkness aspect. Once recorded I fed parts of the track into a vocoder as a carrier, and used the flushing sounds I got from the bathroom as the modulater. Once done with this I proceded to add more light effects to the track, like more reverb and chorus. I used my pod effects, wth the effect of SB Live to achieve a psychotic sort of effect underlaying my music track.
The finished product is only 2 minutes long, and I end it on a continued theme, to signify future's continuance. Im a very positive person, and that goes with my mood.
