A drop of ink was dropped into a glass of water. This was then color corrected and a high contrast matte was pulled. This allowed for the black and red "smoke" to fall from the sky and create the people.

The dot suit is only 2D therefore all the dots need to be in view at all times. This restricted movement to a limited range.
