A Few Other Forms

Generating spheres--note options, note difference between 2 methods of spheric generation (wires/facets)

Preset, Radius, Ellipse buttons

Partial spheres and angular adjustments

Horizontal range: 0-360

Vertical range: -90-+90

Invoke Wire Frame options dialog (Display menu) and experiment

Spherical Solid options allow eight types of objects--see shape menu

Generating tori--note options

Preset, None, Plane, Center buttons

Change options in angular fields

Helixes--Draw a hexagon and a long line next to it

Select Helix tool and set options: steps: 36, cycles: 3, direction: clockwise

Turn off Edit in tool options palette

Click on Hexagon and Z axis

Click on Line and Z axis

Do this a couple of times with various options

Change: scale source, rotate source, scale path, scale path length, #steps, #cycles

Clear all and all ghosted

Draw a line

In Helix Options palette choose Wire Helix about Axis

Deselect Scale Path, Scale Source, Rotate Source

Click on various axes and see results

Topological Levels

Pick Tool and: Point

Segment

Outline

Face

Hole/Volume

Automatic

Note difference in Tool Options dialog box for: Clicking Inside Boundaries/Clicking On Edges

To see the difference between these options, generate one extruded cube and one 3D enclosure and test them

In Automatic mode, turn on "Show Pick Cursor" in Pick Options dialog box--note differences when moving cursor around an object

Pre-picking (pick tool then another tool is applied) vs. Post-picking (just one tool is applied)--Pre-picking allows treatment of more than one object (try with Delete tool)

Reading 3D Space

Difference between XY reference Plane and Perpendicular Switch option

XY on, Perpendicular Switch on, create cube, select move tool, topological level to point, segment, face options

Numerically Defined Transformations

Make a cube, self/copy mode at self, topological level at object, select move tool

Open prompts palette from Palettes menu

Deselect T box to deselect Tracking in Prompts palette

Move mouse cursor inside palette box to make it idle, press return/enter

First entries are zeros

Type 100,300, hit return/enter

Hit Undo--your object is still selected

Set self/copy mode to continuous copy

Deselect A box to make coordinates relative rather than absolute

With move tool selected, type: 100,100 return/enter, 50, 50 return/enter, -200, 200 return/enter, double click to terminate process

Undo except last box

Click on A box to return to absolute coordinates

Set self/copy mode to Multi-Copy with Event Increment selected in Copy Options

Select Rotate Tool

Hit return/enter, type 15 and hit return/enter

Derivative 3D Objects

Draw some 2D lines and shapes using line, vector line, arc and sketch line tools

Select Derivative Extrusion Tool, Derivative Convergence Tool, Derivative Enclosure Tool--test differences

Note removal of created derivatives leaves ghosted objects behind--ghost/unghost buttons

Derivative Objects from parts of other objects

Make 4 cubes at corners of grid

Make XY reference plane active

Set topological level to segment and others after

Select derivative extrusion tool, derivative convergence too,, derivative enclosure tools

Sweeps

Select Sweep tool to see options

Axial Sweep

Two Source Sweep

Two Path Sweep

Boundary Sweep

Turn on Adjust to New Parameters, turn off Edit

Draw three rectilinear shapes, click between them

Undo, select Edit--note dialog box appears

Try various options, flipping, scaling, rotating, etc.

Draw a circle, an arc, a rectangle

Deselect Edit in the Sweep options palette, select new ottions for scale source and rotate source

Click between paths

Draw four new shapes

Try Two source sweep, two path sweep, boundary sweep, sweeps along faces of objects
