CM tutorials

Novices will find a very nice book in front of the turntables about how to DJ, complete with a vinyl tutorial disk. The large sixteen-input console to the right of the turntables is simple to run, but be wary of pushing buttons you don't understand -- you could mute the whole board. There'll be a mixing board tututorial here soon.

caveat

Right now the decks in the ACTLab are belt-driven. This means, basically, no scratching. If the decks are treated roughly, the belts will break, and we will all be sad. So, I would recommend learning the fine (if slightly less viscerally exciting) arts of beat matching and cutting, until we get some direct drives. There are 2 gemini belt-drives and a 2 channel battle mixer in the lab. Have fun, and keep at it. Spinning is like learning to drive, or walk, or read. Everybody can do it, it just takes a lot of frustration to get there. Believe me, I'm still trying to get the hang of it 3 years in, and if you heard me spin, you'd know what I'm talkin' 'bout :)

Happy cutting,

Tray
