Using your Home Directory
Uploading and downloading via FTP via Fetch.
In order to access your space on the Actlab server (your Home directory), you will use a program called Fetch. Fetch is an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program. In a nutshell, it connects the computer you are using to the Home server and allows you to drag and drop files and folders between them.
1) Go to the apple menu, then to Internet, then to Fetch 3.303.
2) Fetch should prompt you for a new connection. Enter the following info:
Host: home.actlab.us
User ID: The user name that you chose (ex. Günter)
Password: The password that you chose: (ex. bratwurst)
Directory: You can delete pub or leave it, it matters little in the big scheme of our lives.
3) You will be presented with the directory contents. You may now drag and drop files in and out of your directory. Yippee!
4) If you need to delete or rename a file or folder, do it from the Remote menu.
5) A final note: when it is time to upload your masterfully created website, you MUST create a directory within your root home directory (the one that it goes to when you first log in) and create a directory named public_html. The _ is an underscore. Upload your website within the public_html directory, making sure that index.html is located within the public_html root directory, not a subfolder.
