[CD to MP3]

Getting the music off of your CD:

  1. Put the CD into the cd-rom of the computer
  2. Go to the Apple Menu and Open Up Adaptec Toast [apple>applications>adaptec toast 4.12]
  3. In the drop down menu under the word "Toast" make sure it says "Audio CD"
  4. Clck the button the says "Audio"
  5. Double click on the image of your CD on the desktop...select the file/files that you want to convert
  6. Drag them into the space provided on the Toast window and make sure that they are still selected/highlighted
  7. Click on the "Extract To" button...direct it to the place you want your file to be saved...it's a good idea to create a new folder on the desktop to put all the files into
  8. If it prompts you to put in a name for the track, then type that in
  9. After it is done extracting all the files you've told it too, click the "Done" button and Exit out of Adaptec Toast
  10. Open up the Folder that has the songs that you've just extracted and rename the files to the names of the songs...so that it's not just Track 1, etc...

Converting to MP3 Format:

  1. Go to the Apple Menu and Open up iTunes [apple>applications>iTunes]
  2. Go to the Edit Menu> Preferences
  3. Click on the Importing Tab and make sure that it says Importing using: "MP3 endcoder" in the drop down menu
  4. Select the OK button
  5. Go to the Advanced Menu>select "Convert to MP3"
  6. Direct the box that appears to the folder that has all the music you've just extracted and select the "Choose button"...Or if you are just doing one file...direct it to that file and select "Choose"
  7. iTunes will then convert the file into MP3 format...
  8. When it's done, you need to select the names of the files in the iTunes window and drag them to the music folder that you are working from
  9. You can now delete the .aiff files in that folder, if you want to...
