Walkman Revolution is a Walkman commercial that seeks to reintroduce the Walkman as a means of listening to music. In today's society it is humorous to consider the Walkman as a serious device for musical entertainment because technology has since introduced more advanced means of doing this. Similar to Disconnected, Walkman Revolution is a reflection of my own habits. I use a Walkman everyday. This is partly because I do not want to spend the money to upgrade, partly because I take pride in my effort to keep the "old school" alive, and also partly because it is a dependable device. The fanny pack full of tapes highlights the baggage that comes with using a Walkman and also comments on the lack of chic associated with the Walkman. The music is lifted straight from cassettes and is therefore of lesser quality. With a bed sheet and a projector, I mimic the ipod commercials in order to make a connection with a more current technology. These scenes challenge the viewer by asking them to question what it is that makes someone "cool" and popular. The ipod commercials suggest that it is the ipod that makes an individual "cool." The Walkman commercial suggests that the person in the video is "cool," but in a different way than the mainstream assigns "coolness" to someone. The commercial depicts an antiquated "cool." Quality and facade aside, the dependability of the Walkman is an argument few are willing to agree with. I, however, will argue it until my face turns blue.
