Stages is a video created to draw a connection between the stages of life and the Super Mario Brothers 1 video game. In a very simplified manner, Stages uses the essence of the video game to establish the set amount of lives that we all start with from conception. As each of us mature, our lives change dramatically, and these dramatic changes lead to newer versions of ourselves. These newer versions often take on different realities and can look nothing like our old selves. Presented in a more literal way, Mario begins his quest with three lives and as each new stage of his life comes into being he loses one of these lives. In Stages, conception ensues, mario is birthed, endures adolescence, conquers adulthood, is imprisoned by his older self, and then terminated during his battle with Bowser, aka death.

This video is constructed using Final Cut Pro. It utilizes clips from Look Who's Talking 2, Go, The American President, Papillion, and a filming of myself playing Super Mario Brothers 1 on the original nintendo system.
