BALLET DE TERRORISTE was inspired by a modern dance performance by Paradigm at the University of Texas. Many of the pieces related to communication with the body as well as the reinvention of traditional art forms. Remembering a picture of my roommate, Daniella, dressed in fatigues and holding a M-16 in the desert, I came up with the idea of dancing terrorists.
At first, I entertained it as a comical work, but as the piece evolved through story outlining and other’s input, I felt a greater and greater connection between my idea and the idea of Poetic Terrorism and Secret Theater. I decided to focus the theme of the project to beauty and terror, investigating our common conceptions of each of those terms and how that changes when placed in a different context.
