Hassan Ahmad
Hassan used musical inspiration to create a narrative displayed by still
images and sound. The story is based on a man that works in a weapons
factory in Russia. His spirit is plagued by the knowledge of how the
weapons he makes are used. He reaches a crossroads in his life and begins
to reflect on his many regrets and unanswered wishes and dreams. The main
part of the story takes place at Lake Karachay in Russia. The importance of
this location is that Lake Karachay is the most contaminated site in the
world. His mind is in turmoil with thoughts of war, hate, environmental
destruction and personal failures. After an hour of thought and reflection
the realization of suicide hits. Just by being at the lake, he has exposed
himself to enough radiation to kill him in a matter of two weeks or so.
Again the theory of isolation is portrayed in this project. Hassan based
his story on the music and poetry of artist, Daniel Gildenlow. He
originally wanted the images to drive the story, but instead, he has grown
to include sound and the driving force behind this story. Hassan also
played with various endings for his project and ended up with one he felt
fit best with the class story.
