Dream Project #3: Voices Within
For my thrid and final project, I wanted to explore
an area of Dreams that I felt was commonly overlooked. Most seemed
to focus on the unruly and energetic nature of dreams, the explosion
of content that exceeds the bonds of human conciousness. However,
I wanted to look at the other side, where things are far more
quiet.
I wanted
to explore the opposite side of the Dream Matrix, the area of
sleep of both body and mind. Studies have shown that when trained
monks meditate, they often have increased brain activity in many
areas, despite the fact that they seem very dormant. This led
me to wonder about similar states, such as hyperfocus and catatonia.
Perhaps there was more going on in a person's mind than there
appears.
As my
research progressed I learned that in fact there isn't much going
on in most cases. That's why it's a problem.
So with
that idea on the cutting room floor and not enough time to explore
the human psyche left, I fell back on an idea I had for my first
project.
The background
is pretty clear: a young man is struck by a bus and is severly
injured. With his body almost completely shut off from his mind,
his brain has total control of his thoughts and his subconcious
speaks to him. As he begins to learn more about the inner working
of his own mind, our hero begins to realize that his inner aspects
might not be the easiest to get along with...
