After the short film was completed and I was fairly satisfied with the results, I sat down and watched the movie....over and over and over. As I watched, I drew shapes and lines that I saw throughout the piece. The goal was to isolate 26 characters from the film and create an alphabet using those characters. Although the soundtrack of our film was supposed to be a factor in this alphabet, I found that after watching the film a few times I could no longer bear listening to it. So I played some reggae and I was a happy girl. You may notice that the characters seem inspired by tribal symbols. Surely this is due to the reggae. This inspiration was not fully expected, although in retrospect I feel stupid for not thinking that the music would effect my work. After I finished about 150 little characters I picked the 26 that I liked the best. I went through those 26 and put them in the order that struck me at the time. I tried to match my characters to the real alphabet and some of them actually matched up pretty well. In some cases I intentionally rotated a character so it wouldn't look exactly like its representative letter.
