This project was particularly unique for me, because as you may notice browsing through my other ACTLab course pages, I've previously done various audio projects, but never actually written a song for any of my presentations. I ended up being more anxious about presenting this than I had about nearly all of my previous presentations, even though it was a first presentation.
Unfortunately, just prior to recording the piece, the computer I did all of my recording work on experienced a fair amount of random hardware failure, and made itself entirely unavailable to me. I had started working on a version of it in Ableton Live, but that was stranded on my downed computer. So, I started over, wrote words, and recorded it into Reaper. It was my first experience using Reaper, and while I felt like it was quite easily accessible and effective, I still prefer using Ableton Live.
It is my belief that humanity's ultimate destination is to take to the stars and explore our universe. As much as I wish it would be taking place during my lifetime, I realize that it is incredibly unlikely. Nonetheless, scarcely more than 100 years ago, people still relied upon horses as a primary mode of transportation and utility. Flight was in its absolute infancy. But in a cosmic blink of an eye, we humans have made it possible to travel many times faster than the speed of sound, we've landed men on the moon six times. If just a few decades of human progress can change that much, supposing we manage to survive another couple thousand years, the future holds limitless possibility. When the crew of Apollo 11 toured the world after landing on the moon, the people who enthusiastically greeted them in countries all over the world were overjoyed that "we" had done it. Not "we" Americans, but "we" humans. In space, I believe the scale shifts, and people cease to be endlessly divided and classified - they're simply people. So, I wrote this song about the moon. I hope you enjoy it.
