Genevis Members Apprehended (AP June 27, 2098)--Yesterday six members of the covert identity-theft ring Genevis were apprehended before they could carry out what appears to be their most complex and potentially damaging plan to date. The intended target was C.E.O. of Microtel, William Gates II. It is believed that the group intended to intercept several of Gates' planned simul-appearances on July 9, 2098, including an appearance in Tokyo, at Sony headquarters where a conference regarding a merger of the two companies was to take place. The potentiality of identity theft to infiltrate areas which maintain very high levels of security has been a growing concern among many large corporations as well as government agencies. Genevis has been known to have been in operation since 2072 after the usage of identity boxes became common place in the business world. The members of Genevis have pledged to cause complete economic and technologic collapse of the world's existing financial infrastructure in an attempt to speed up what they believe to be "chaotic freedom". When asked to comment on whether or not he would continue to use the Microtel Identity Box™ which has become a cornerstone of Microtel's production line, Mr. Gates stated, "This technology is constantly in a state of impending perfection. The future of this technology of course means that we must take risks, but as security measures increase there will indeed come a time when identity theft will be virtually impossible." The Microtel Identity Boxes™ allow those who use them to send multiple "copies" of themselves to various points around the globe via quantum holographic teleportation. A computer chip is implanted in the user's brain which communicates directly with the identity box which then transmits selected bits of information about that person including personality and physical characteristics by way of quantum holographic technology to any destination which has a receiving identity box. This allows people to be in multiple locations at one time and conduct any business which does not require their physical presence. |
