Mark Wingate has participated in electronic and electroacoustic music all over the world. He earned a DMA in composition from the University of Texas. In 1994 he studied electronic music in Stockholm, Sweden, as a Fullbright Scholar. In Venezuela he earned a Composer Fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts in 1997. He co-founded the Electronic Arts Studio at the Istanbul Technical University in Turkey. His work has received awards from academies and festivals in Italy, Denmark, England, Sweden, France and Austria. Currently he teaches and directs the center for electroacoustic music at Florida State University. “Ode to the south-facing form” derives its vocal parts from recordings of Tibetan and Japanese monks and African ethnic chants.
