I watched Rebel Without a Cause (a favorite film of mine), and had a lucid dream inspired by its characters and their anxiety. The next day, my girlfiend told me that she also had a Rebel Without a Cause-inspired dream. I composed a sound collage based on the unrelenting music of the film, and bookended it with psychically-charged dialogue from the film that perhaps spawned from dreams. I am always amazed by the latent/manifest content of Hollywood code movies, especially in the sophisticated fifties. In this dream, like a mirror, the incest and oedipal anxiety of the film (contained in the subtext) becomes the launchpad for an inexpressible hidden meaning.
