Like Project #1, "Untitled Delirium" is a multi-layered recording-based sound piece. In this case, I attempted to recreate the experience of "de-realization." This is one of the symptoms of panic disorder, which I experienced particularly painfully in the spring of 2003. My first panic/de-realized state took place when I was home from college on spring break, and listening to the sounds of insects outside, I hallucinated that an insect consciousness had implanted itself in my brain. Things were pretty bad for the next few days, and this piece is an attempt to represent the trance of derealization that continual anxiety produces. The beginning of the piece is made of new voice overs, and time-specific recordings of myself and my parents at home, and the insects around my house. The bulk of the piece is a long building vocal drone based on the "Shhh" sound, recorded and overlayed several times.
