Kimberly Paz -Project 3

Second Project

This interactive project was meant to explore a psychological theory. This theory states that if a person expresses his/her stresses or traumatic events in writing they instantly feel a sense of calm.

Along with this idea, I incorporated some of the things I do that served as a catharsis for me. After a stressful situation or a moment of breakdown, I write down what I feel then afterwards paint the emotions that I feel.

I did this to encourage my peers to find something that is a catharsis for them.

As the class wrote, I played relaxing music such as, Remy Zero, Spiritualized and Coldplay.

After that I told them to draw whatever they felt at that very moment. I had brought acrylic paint & paper, paintbrushes, oil pastels, markers, crayons, watercolor pens & paper, and other painting materials.

Below, is the first painting I did using this method.

THE MOTIVATION:

I was always intrigued in the mind and why it worked the way it did. Also, why it worked differently for various people. I first learned of this theory from a Dr. James Pennebaker. I was told to write down something I had never told anyone. I did. I felt cleansed in a way and from this day on, this is how I handled my stresses or let downs or even happy moments.

The first time I incorporated the painting aspect of my catharsis is when my mother was in the hospital.

I drew the vase and flowers that someone had sent to her in three different sets of colors.
