This project consists of two hand drawn animations of dreams I actually had. I think that the first project is undeniably uncanny- in the dream I attempted to teleport somewhere, and my body did. Before my consciousness could make it though, my body started talking and acting of its own accord. The second project seems to me more surreal than Uncanny, but I think its animation is decidedly more evocative. In this dream a man in a black suit walks down a long beach next to the large murmering head of an ugly woman.
I had shot the pictures for the second project earlier, but I ended up scrapping that capture. To get better resolution and more consistent lighting, I shone a home depot work light through a sheet of very heavy diffusion that I bought from Olden Lighting. I did this from above the sheet, and tried to shoot at an angle as close to the light as possible. The result was a pretty even distribution of light across the page. It doesn't always work perfectly, and I believe that this is because when I processed each picture I auto-leveled it. This made the light remarkably even when there was plenty of black on the page (like in the close up shots in the first dream,) but when there was little light the relatively small differences in light value became very intense after auto-leveling.
