Hey all.....
Well, I feel we got to the boy-love issue towards the end of class and
didn't get to address it ifurther than our 'lease' would allow. This
is a new area for my brain-bucket to mull over........
So here are some thoughts/questions mainly to get some of your
opinions... this is a gray area for me.
First, I wonder why this issue is such a taboo today if in fact it was
seen as a type of 'mentoring' in the history of different
cultures......Also, is there an extremist notion here similar to that of
homosexual men being portrayed as child molestor ...
I mean, has our culture only created a 'dirty' connotation associated
with this type of relationship?
Is this yet another result of our 'America' being founded by uptight
protestants?
(I'm not sure of the attitude regarding this issue in other countries.)
But here is another question which we touched upon -- what is the age of
'consent', when does agency occur?
What are the boundaries of 'power'?
I also wonder if the same thoughts on this subject of "boy-love" can be
applied to that between any sexual/love union between two people
(whatever the 'gender') where one is defined by law as a 'minor' -- I'm
assuming here under 17years.
This brings more questions of government regulations within our personal
sphere.
I have more thougths rambling in my head here and just wanted to see
what nibbles came from this......
