mirrors

My project deals with the distortion of the body and reflections of the body. For one installation I have smashed a mirror into pieces and glued it back together - when one looks into it, they see a distorted image of their self. In some parts of the mirror it cuts my face into bits, and my eye is connected to my mouth, etc. It was actually fun looking into a normal mirror and then hitting the mirror with a hammer, and your face smashes into broken pieces. Another mirror I created was a fun house mirror. I bent a piece of wire mesh into curves and attached plasstic mylar on top. (the foil did not work like I thought) When you look into it, your body bends with the curves and your image is distorted. The last mirror I created, well stole, was a concave mirror. It distorts your body like a fish eye lens (it bends near the edges). With this mirror I will hang a thin mesh in front of it and project images into the mirror. I will use images (photos I've taken) that I connect to my body. I decided to work with mirrors because reflections are the only vision we have of our body. It is how we know for our self what we look like. Distortion of the body stems from my first project. I have done the exact opposite of being careful/perfection and gone with chaos. I smashed mirrors and stolen them, and cut up my hands in the process. and it's changed me. |
