The College of Communication Senior Fellows Program

Qualified students are invited to join the Senior Fellows Program- a College-wide honors program. It is a broad, interdisciplinary supplement to the various departmental majors in the College of Communication. During their tenure as Senior Fellows, students take four courses (12 hours) of a seminar-nature (COM 370) and also participate in a variety of enrichment activities unavailable to other students. For more information, contact Dr. Roderick Hart, Director, Senior Fellows Program, at 471-1956.

The Radio-Television-Film Honors Program

The Honors Program of the Department of Radio-Television-Film provides an academic experience which goes substantially beyond that available through the usual course of studies. It is available to RTF Majors who have demonstrated through their past work their qualification to perform at an advanced academic level. The requirements for enrollment in the RTF Honors Program are:

Transfer students are eligible for the Honors Program, but in order to graduate with Departmental Honors they must complete at least 60 semester hours of course work at UT Austin.

In order to graduate with Departmental Honors, a student must complete 6 hours of Honors course work with a grade of B through enrollment in RTF 378H, Honors Tutorial Course, for two terms. The Honors Tutorial Course is an individual instruction course supervised by a faculty member. The work of the course may be in production or in any of the academic areas offered by the Department. If the work is to be in production, the supervising instructor must certify that the equipment and facilities needed to complete the work are available. The academic level of the work proposed for Honors credit must go significantly beyond that usually undertaken under RTF 336, Special Projects in RTF.

To seek admission to the Honors Program, the student who qualifies on the basis of major, semester hours completed and grade point average, should submit to the Chairman of the RTF Department a written proposal for an Honors Project. The proposal may be for one RTF 378H registration, with a second proposal to be submitted in a later semester, or for a longer project, the equivalent of 6 semester hours of course work, half of which will be completed under each RTF 378H registration. (The required 6 hours of Honors registration may not be taken in one semester.) The Honors Committee will evaluate each proposal and, if approved, will recommend a faculty member as supervisor. The student is responsible for securing the faculty memberšs written agreement to serve as supervisor of the project. Grades of Incomplete are permitted for Honors Projects only under the most exceptional circumstances.
