December 15, 2001: I dream that I am inside of a large, ornate, Gothic cathedral to collect sounds on my tape machine. A dark-haired lady in a white robe guides me into a large, pitch-black room where supernatural sounds emanate. The eerie, swirling sounds of the spirits are both frightening and exhilerating and I wake with its sonic memory still embedded. A day later I purchased a Yamaha CS-15 analog synthesizer( ca. 1980 ) from a friend's housemate and played with it late into the night. Upon experimentation of its external input capabilities I connect my record player to oscillator 1 and manipulate the sound of a Spanish SFX record from the same era. Creating a complementary sound on oscillator 2, I play along with the record on the keyboard. Soon I realize I have exactly recreated the sound from my dream, and I spend the next 30 or 40 minutes trembling in the dark as I deeply reenter the dream. Afterwards I took note of the settings on the knobs and sliders of the synthesizer so that it could be recreated, and by clicking on the door in the drawing above you can get a reasonable idea of what it sounded like.
