Welcome to the tutorial for the incoming EGS class!
First I’d like to thank Sandy Stone and her staff at the Advanced
Communication Technology Lab, University of Texas at Austin, for setting up
and hosting this discussion webpage for us.
This online tutorial is open to faculty and first-year students of the
European Graduate School and is designed to facilitate students’
preparations for the summer residency in August 2000. Reading the assigned
books in a set order during a specific time gives you the opportunity to ask
questions, discuss problems and get a feedback to your reading experience
from your classmates. Still, this tutorial should not be confused with an
online class since I am aware you are all extremely busy until the summer:
Your intensive class time will begin when you arrive in Saas-Fee. Therefore,
this tutorial should be low-key, ONE BOOK A MONTH is sufficient and you are
requested to enter just one comment each month (but feel free to comment
more often).
Your performance in the tutorial discussions will allow fellow students and
faculty to get to know you. Since a formal introduction is not required
(you’ll have to do this in Sas-Fee), your participation in our conversation
and how you debate will define who you are in our minds. Not a bad way to
get a first impression!
Have fun!
