I'm always a little puzzled when I hear this concern expressed. Now, this
is just one guy talking, but I HATE standing in line at the grocery store,
post office, travel office, bank, etc. - essentially anything that can
possibly be eased by online convenience. I really don't get jacked up
about the supposed payoff of that generic exchange between clerk and
myself. For me, I'd rather /spend/ the time I /save/ not going through
these motions with friends, lovers, anybody I really want to be with.
That to me is the value. Are we really better off leaving our real
friends behind to run errands in town? That's all I see happening by
having to do these things. Usually, the reason we can't hang out with our
real relationship types is because we have to take care of this crap in
addition to work/school.
